Les Claypool, art-rock pioneer, bassist, and front man for the band Primus, reads from and discusses his debut novel, South of the Pumphouse. A dark, clever tale of two brothers, a fishing tip, misconceptions, drugs and murder, South of the Pumphouse skillfully combines classic motifs of epic struggle and intelligent layers of imagery. Like Claypool’s music, the material is innovative, highly independent and excruciatingly though provoking.

salutations, mr claypool. i find everything that you’ve done in your known artistic life span to be very commendable. in fact i find that most “artists” who become recognized for what they do, don’t even deserve the recognition. not that i’m in any postion (yet) to say who does and who does not deserve, i’m just saying that after their inception into the industry, they most typically become self centered, egocentric, wasteful bastards (bastardo). it appears to me that you are among the ranks of true artist that have maintained a grounded, level-headed attitude, and are truely trying to better our society as a whole. I’ve looked all different types of places in search of a way to contact you or any of the artists that have a good perspective on what is artistically sound. i wish to speak with you at length about this and other topics of interest, if or when you have time you busy esoteric genius you. thank you and peace. nathan (the n.lightner)
